Objectives |
Students will be able to:
- recognize and read all 200 words by end of Grade 2
- use combinations of words to make simple three to six word sentences
- use words to fill in the blank and complete basic sentences
- successfully pass spelling tests with all words
- use proper punctuation at beginning and end of sentences using words

Materials | 5x7 index cards or other rectangular colored paper, black markers, list of all words for parents handout. | Preparation | write words on cards or other paper for hanging up in classroom, bingo card grids for each student, checkers or other object for bingo | Activity | Each week cover between 8-10 words by grouping them into subject, or rhyming groups, or from a weekly reading book.
Have students write the words to build site recognition
Have students repeat the words aloud in groups and by calling on individuals
Have students write in their journals using the weekly words
Have individual students form sentences in front of the class using the wall cards and let the class read it back (or have a challenge for one student to read all or part of the sentence)
Play word bingo and offer a prize
Have a weekly spelling test with the set of 8-10 words
