Chameleons are dimorphic, meaning that males typically look a little fancier than females. Some chameleon species have horns, and if so, males will often fight aggressively for females. Male chameleons are quite persistent, generally. Males also mate with more than one female and are very territorial.

Even though females let other chameleons know that they are ready to mate, with their changing colours, males will approach females who are not changing their colours, too. These female chameleons are very angry towards the males. They hiss and snap at these males because... Hello!? Rude!
