Magellanic Penguins
Magellanic penguins were named after the
explorer Ferdinand Magellan who first saw them in 1519 on his first voyage around the
tip of South America.
Magellanic penguins are about 2 feet, 3
inches tall and weigh 9 pounds. They are the largest of the warm
weather penguins. They live on the coast of the Argentina, Chile and the
Falkland Islands.
During mating season, Magellanic penguins
burrow, forming underground nesting colonies.
