Harry Houdini was a magician, noted for his sensational escape acts. The type of magic that he performed is known as "illusions". He is, arguably, one of the most famous magicians in history.
Harry Houdini was born on March 24, 1874 in Budapest, Hungary. His family moved to the United States when he was 4 years old.
When he was 17, he began performing as a magician -- mostly performing card tricks and coin tricks at small museums and fairs.
In his mid-twenties, Harry's career began to take off as he focused on his now-famous escape acts -- freeing himself from handcuffs, chains, ropes, mailbags, jails and even the belly of a dead whale that had washed up onto the beach (ewww!)
