Chameleons: Teeth
Chameleons have teeth that are specifically made for crunching insects. They are sharp and tiny. Chameleon teeth are so tiny that they are difficult to see with the naked eye! A chameleon’s teeth need to be strong, sharp, and swift enough to crunch and even kill prey—so it makes sense that its jaws are also very sturdy and can clamp down without a moment’s notice!
Unlike humans, chameleons do not have replacement teeth. In other words, they have no baby teeth. Yet from birth, chameleons may have horns. On many species of chameleon, these horns are referred to as rostral appendages. Horns, like teeth and claws, exist for protection. In the case of the very social chameleon, however, horns are also important for wooing and winning a mate.
And while the chameleon likes to blend in, when it comes to courtship, a chameleon might just be all about the flare!
