France has various large cities spread across the country from Paris, the largest, to smaller regional capitals such as Marseille and Lyon. Beginning with the capital city of Paris, it is a city of classical culture, famous for its restaurants, museums and tourist hotspots. It attracts a huge number of visitors every year and is easily recognised across the world. Elsewhere, Marseille is a multicultural port centre that is often called France’s second city.

Lyon is one of the oldest cities in France, originating as Lugdunum in Roman times. It has been a commercial, banking and industrial powerhouse for the last 500 years. Toulouse is nicknamed the pink city due to the color of many rooftops in the city. It is has an old town that sprawls out into a modern city including a large university and the headquarters of Airbus.
