Welsh Tales from the Mabinogion:
The Tale of Geraint, Son of Erbin
Once upon a time, in the legendary land of King Arthur, there lived a brave and noble knight named Geraint, the son of Erbin. Geraint was one of the most esteemed knights of King Arthur’s court, known for his courage, strength, and kindness.

One sunny day, during a grand festival at King Arthur’s court, Geraint noticed a beautiful young woman named Enid. Enid was known for her grace and beauty, and Geraint immediately fell in love with her. After the festival, Geraint decided to travel to Enid's homeland to win her heart.
Geraint’s journey led him to a small town where he encountered a mysterious knight. This knight was clad in rusty armor and seemed out of place in the cheerful town. Curious, Geraint followed the knight and discovered that he was living with an old woman in a rundown house. Geraint soon learned that this knight was Yniol, Enid's uncle, who had lost his lands and wealth to a usurping knight named Edeyrn.

Determined to help Yniol and win Enid’s love, Geraint challenged Edeyrn to a duel. The two knights fought fiercely, but Geraint’s skill and bravery won the day. He defeated Edeyrn and restored Yniol to his rightful place. Grateful and impressed by Geraint’s bravery, Yniol gave his blessing for Geraint to marry Enid.
Geraint and Enid were soon wed, and they returned to King Arthur’s court where they were warmly welcomed. However, Geraint began to doubt his abilities as a knight. He feared that his love for Enid had made him soft and unworthy of his title. To prove his worth, Geraint decided to take Enid on a series of adventures, testing both his bravery and their love.

They traveled through many lands, facing numerous challenges and dangers. One day, while journeying through a dark forest, Geraint heard Enid whispering to herself about her concerns for his safety. Misunderstanding her words, Geraint thought she was questioning his bravery. Hurt and angry, Geraint decided to ride in silence, refusing to speak to Enid.
Their journey led them to the court of the Earl of Limours, who invited them to stay as guests. However, the earl had dishonorable intentions and tried to win Enid's affection. Enid remained loyal to Geraint, and when the earl’s advances became too much, Geraint fought and defeated him, protecting Enid’s honor.
Despite their victories, Geraint’s silence continued, and their journey grew more difficult. One day, they came upon a castle where a wicked knight named Oringle tried to imprison them. Geraint battled Oringle and his men, showing incredible bravery and strength. Enid’s unwavering support and love helped Geraint realize that her loyalty had never wavered.

In the end, Geraint defeated Oringle and freed the castle from his tyranny. Through these trials, Geraint finally understood that Enid’s love made him stronger, not weaker. He apologized to Enid for doubting her and for his silence. Enid forgave him, and their bond grew even stronger.
They returned to King Arthur’s court, where Geraint was celebrated not only for his bravery but also for his deep love and trust in Enid. Their adventures taught them both the true meaning of loyalty, courage, and love.
And so, Geraint and Enid lived happily ever after, their tale becoming one of the many legendary stories celebrated in the land of King Arthur.
