Moose belong to the Cervidae family, which has different species all over the world that come in all different sizes. The species of the Cervidae family have all evolved since their origin in Europe and Asia around 20 million years ago!

The species of the cervidae family have certain distinguishable characteristics such as having long legs and necks, short tails, hooves with two toes, and most of the males have antlers. Moose are the largest members of this family.

Across the northern hemisphere all moose appear quite similar, especially with their huge, flat antlers. There are five different subspecies of moose, four in north american and one in Europe and Asia.

There used to be a sixth subspecies of moose called the caucasian moose that lived in the Caucasus Mountains (in Europe and a small part of Asia), but it went extinct by the 19th century.
